Early history of the church

As to the appearance of the early church or chapel there are but scanty records. It seems to have been a very uninspiring building The medieval chapel seems to have been rebuilt about 1830.' 'The church is much like Speeton, the nave and chancel being each lighted by one small window on the South. The chancel is paved with brick, the floor of the nave is covered with sea gravel, except that a line of flag stones runs through between the two rows of benches. The font is a plain stone basin.' The church at this time had a capacity of 60 people and was listed as having a perpetual curacy within the Parish of Bridlington. Another source gives 'A low mean building with an open bell-turret at the west end, so low was the roof that a person outside could rest his arm on it
